James Reintsma, City Attorney

The City Attorney is an appointed position with the City of Libby and is the Chief Legal Advisor for the Mayor, City Council, Committees of the Council, and all other City departments on legal questions that arise in relation to business of the city.

The City Attorney is responsible for the preparation of ordinances, resolutions and contracts, and also the review of the same to assure that all City activities and projects are within the framework of the law.  The City Attorney will also appear before City Court and other courts and prosecute on behalf of the city.

When required, the City Attorney will give to the Mayor or to City Council written opinions on questions pertaining to the duties and the rights, liabilities, and powers of the city; and perform other duties that pertain to the functions of the City Council or that the City Council prescribes by resolution.
